MOODY – The Cooperative Extension Informational Kiosk was unveiled at the Doris Stanley Memorial Library in Moody last week.
“The Kiosk here at the Moody Library will be a portal for Cooperative Extension for everyone in the county,” Alabama Cooperative Extension Director Gary Leeme said. “Those who do not have Internet at home can come here and pick up the newsletters and get all the publications we have. They can keep up with what is going on in the Extension by coming to the library.”
Leeme said the reason the Cooperative Extension exists is to provide new information that is relevant to the needs of the people.
“To help you have a better quality of life,” he said. “Not everyone has digital access. Lee Ann Clark and her local Extension Service staff found a good partner in the Moody Library. This is a way to help everyone in the city and county. We are very proud of Lee Ann and her leadership.”
Alabama Cooperative Extension Assistant Director Stan Windham said this is huge from a marketing perspective.
“We can show people the unbiased research-based information that we have,” he said. “I think it’s great for St. Clair County because this county is so diverse and rich in history through the Cooperative Extension. A lot of things have been innovated from here through the years. This is a first. It’s a partnership with the Moody Library, and they have done an outstanding job.”
Clark, the St. Clair County Extension coordinator, said the Kiosk wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Moody Library and a grant provided by the Coosa Valley Resource Conservation and Development Council.
“I am thrilled with the huge turnout and level of support that we’ve had today,” she said. “I’m excited to be able to expand our outreach and services through this new Extension Kiosk. It is the first one of its kind in the state, and St. Clair County is piloting the project. That is very exciting to me.”
Moody Mayor Pro-tem Linda Crowe said this is going to be a fantastic opportunity for the city.
“I am very proud for the Moody Library and the city of Moody,” she said. “This can also help our students who are in school.”
Moody librarian Patsy Spradley said she is honored Moody was chosen for this.
“I think this is a very good thing for the community,” she said. “It’s a good thing for the library. We will definitely be talking it up to our patrons wanting them to use it. I am just so thankful we get to do this and we are the first in the state of Alabama. That makes us proud.”
State Rep. Jim Hill said this is important because it is the wave of the future.
“It is the way things are going to be done,” he said. “It is so nice to be here in Moody to be on the very cutting edge of that technology. It will be a great addition to this library and community. We’re happy to have it in Moody.”
St. Clair County Commission Chairman Paul Manning said it’s great for the county.
“The entire commission looks forward to helping our entities, the county Extension Service, our veterans program and the rural people of this county,” he said. “The farmers and the people who would like to know more about the farming industry can use this because it will better educate them and give them a clue where they are at. The young people appear to be getting more and more involved and I am proud of that. I appreciate each of them for wanting to make a better life for themselves.”
